History of Masinloc
Masinloc was among the native settlements visited by Juan de Salcedo in his exploration of Zambales in 1572. The first village is what is now called San Andres in the Barrio of Bani. Thirty five years later, the town was founded on the southern mouth of the river across the bay from the island of Salvia or San Salvador. However, the first convent was built on the east shore of Salvia, while the first town site, now covered by the sea, was just in front of the stone church. Actually, the town is now behind the church (San Andres Church) and is growing inland across the river towards Collat, Lipay and Baloganon to the North. Organized in 1607, the first town in the province of Zambales, Masinloc has come to play an important role in every phase of provincial development. Masinloc was the first capital of the then extensive province of Zambales that extended from Cape Bolinao to Olongapo, until Sta. Cruz, Botolan and Iba, all came from Masinloc.Masinloc in the early days have only flat section on its area occupied by people. Food crops and animals particularly fish are abundant in the lower section. The San Andres Church was constructed in 1607 and at present facing to the west towards Masinloc bay. Some Church Historians claimed that the etymology of Masinloc came from the root word "HINLOC" and the participle "Ma". "HINLOC" is a native plant that grows to the north east of town growing to a meter and a half with thin stalks and wide large leaves. Masinloc is a coastal town situated between the Zambales Mountain in the east and South China Sea on the west. It is composed 13 barangays. |
Masinloc Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant In April 2008, AES expanded into the Philippines, completing the $930 million purchase and transfer of assets of the 600 MW (gross) Masinloc Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, now Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd., located in Zambales Province in Luzon. This acquisition is a key component of AES’s strategy to invest in areas where there is a significant need for new capacity and offers the company an excellent entry point into the growing Philippine economy through one of the lowest cost base-load plants in the system. The Masinloc project is a particularly attractive investment because the existing facility has the infrastructure in place to allow AES to add an additional 600 MW of generation capacity. As it has done through similar acquisitions in other parts of the world, the company expects to improve the overall efficiency and output of the existing plant, providing more reliable energy to the Philippine market. Originally constructed in 1998, the plant uses coal from a variety of sources in the Pacific Rim. Through this acquisition, AES now operates the Philippines’ first privatized thermal plant. The Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd of AES owns the base-load pulverized coal-fired power plant. The plant consists of two 300 MW units, each with an an identical drum type forced re-circulation boiler. The plant began operating in 1998
